UPDATE: SNOWMAGEDDON 2015!!!

WeatherApparently, the moniker for last night’s snow fall in the south is either Snowmageddon or Snowpocalypse. (If you’ve heard of another, I’d love to hear it).

Either one sounds pretty ominous. Either one is probably descriptive overkill for the 6 – 8″ of snow we received overnight. But regardless, as pretty as it is, it will soon be gone. By all accounts, things will probably be back to normal by Saturday morning around here, with warmer temperatures moving in rapidly. Actually, as I write this, it is already well above freezing, the snow is already quickly melting, and I’m seeing more and more vehicles braving the slushy streets. By Saturday, the temps will be well into the 40’s, with 60’s by Tuesday.

So… why am I playing “armchair weatherman” today?

We’ve already had several calls regarding how the weather will affect Fresh Oil New Wine 2015.

The truth is… it won’t. Fresh Oil New Wine will proceed as planned, and as I said, by all reports, the roads will be clear well before the Sunday morning kickoff.

Don’t let fear of the weather keep you from the incredible things God is going to do at Fresh Oil New Wine this year!

Join us this Sunday through Thursday
for Fresh Oil New Wine 2015!

For Such A Time As This.

For those of you who saw my last blog post (As The World Burns), I referenced a Scripture in Esther…

“For if you remain completely silent at this time, relief and deliverance will arise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father’s house will perish. Yet who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” ~ Esther 4:14

The children of Israel were in danger of being slaughtered by the evil Haman, and Mordecai was encouraging Esther to stand up for her people and expose Haman’s wicked plan to the king (which could potentially cost Esther her very life). Esther trusted God to take care of her, spoke to the king, and her people were miraculously spared.

We are at a critical time in world history. Evil and darkness are running rampant in our nation and in our world. However…

We are called to be a light in the darkness.

We are commanded to be salt in this world.

We are meant to make a difference.

We are destined to overcome.

We are here for such a time as this.

What does that mean for you? What does it mean for your family, your church, your community?

What does it mean to our nation and our world?

Watch this video clip, and join me March 1-5 for Fresh Oil New Wine.

Come find out what it means for you!

The Festival of Lights

Whether referred to as the Feast of Dedication or the Festival of Lights, the celebration of Hanukkah holds great significance for both the Jew and Christian alike. One of the main symbols of Hanukkah, the menorah, holds great symbolism as well. So, how did Hanukkah come to be? What is the historical and spiritual significance of Hanukkah? What does the menorah symbolize for the believer in Christ?

Let’s take a look…

In 167 BC, Syrian-Greco forces seized the Jewish temple and dedicated it to the worship of the Greek god Zeus. The Jewish people were, understandably, distraught, but fear of governmental retaliation kept them in check. Antiochus Epiphanes, the governor, then made the observance of Judaism a capital offense. Following that, in a move copied directly from Daniel’s experience in Babylon, the Jewish people were ordered to worship only Greek gods.

It was in the village of Modi’in that the seeds of revolt began to break through the hardened ground of apathy. It was there that Greek soldiers gathered the villagers and forced them to bow down to an idol. Then, in a move meant to pour salt on the wound, the villagers were forced to eat the flesh of a pig. It was when soldiers ordered Mattathias, the local high priest, to bow and eat that the unrest began. Not surprisingly, Mattathias refused submit. When a villager stepped forward and offered to participate on Mattathias’s behalf, the high priest drew his sword and, in a fit of rage, killed the Greek soldier and the indulgent villager. Mattathias’s five sons, along with zealous villagers, armed themselves and killed the rest of the garrison in the village.

Mattathias and his family fled the village to hide in the mountains, and other incited Jews later joined them. Eventually the revolutionaries, who came to be known as the Maccabees, were successful in taking back their city and ultimately in regaining control of the temple in Jerusalem. Mattathias, who by this time had died, had ceded leadership of the revolt to his third son, Judah Maccabee (Judah the Hammer). Judah ordered the temple to be cleansed, a new altar to be erected in place of the polluted altar of Zeus, and new holy vessels to be made. When all had been completed and the time of dedication had come, it was discovered that there was only enough olive oil to keep the light of the menorah lit, not for the full eight days, but for only one day. The priest lit the wick anyway, and the flame burned for eight full days!

In the years that followed, this became a major feast in the land of Israel. Because the word Hanukkah stems from a word meaning “to dedicate”, we find references to this feast translated in many English Bibles, not incorrectly, as the Feast of Dedication. The Jewish people commonly call it “The Festival of Lights” and that is because out of that celebration (which occurs in the winter, before Christmas) came a peculiar menorah. The traditional menorah has seven branches and illuminated the Holy Place, wherein was the table of showbread and the altar of incense. In the New Testament book of Revelation, the seven branches represent the seven churches of Asia Minor as well as the church across the years. Recall the explanation given in the Book of Revelation:

The mystery of the seven stars which you saw in My right hand, and the seven golden lampstands: The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches, and the seven lampstands which you saw are the seven churches. ~ Revelation 1:20

The tradition of the nine-branched menorah comes from the eight-day miracle and the ninth mystery candle. Some rabbis believe seven of the branches represent the traditional menorah while the eighth branch represents new beginnings (which, historically, is the meaning of the number eight).

Here is a clip from our show, Ron Phillips from Abba’s House with my friend Rabbi Curt Landry, explaining the significance of the menorah…

Standing With Our Friends

There is so much I would like to say about what God has been doing at Fresh Oil New Wine 2014, but how do you put the Kingdom events of (already) 4 days into a few paragraphs? We have experienced wonderful worship, dynamic preaching, and restorative and healing miracles. As of tonight, we have had reports of three people with varying degrees of hearing loss completely healed, one of whom was one of our visiting speaker’s wife. To God be the glory, great things He is doing!!! Every speaker has knocked it out of the park with words for the body of Christ that I wish everyone who is reading this blog could hear.

Worship2When I think of the focus of our conference, a theme of recognizing our Jewish roots as believers, and the importance of standing with the nation of Israel in these troubling times in which we live, I cannot help but recognize the stark contrast of the actions of some in national leadership who have taken a “less than supportive” tone with Israel this very week. Veiled threats of isolation and global disdain at a time when we should be standing firmer than ever with our greatest ally is a cause for deep concern. However, even as some in Washington ramp up the rhetoric, we see glimmers of hope coming from some corners of our country that give rise to hope and trust that our relationship with Israel is not beyond repair.

I’ll say more about this in an upcoming blog post… be watching for it.

In the meantime, today marks the conclusion of Fresh Oil New Wine 2014, and it will end with a bang! My dear friend Rabbi Curt Landry is with us for the morning session (9:45a.m.), and tonight, I welcome my friend Pastor John Hagee to close out the conference.

If you are within 100 miles of Chattanooga, you owe it to yourself to come. If you cannot make it, be sure to watch our live streaming at our website.

A Leader Worth Following

From inside the walls of our churches to the halls of Congress, people are looking for leadership. But what is a real leader?

Is it the person who “makes the rules” and “calls the shots?”

Is it the one who constantly reminds others of who is in charge?

Is it the person who has the “my way or the highway” mentality?

Or…

Is it the person who listens to the advice of others? Is it the person who takes suggestions and criticism, and has the wisdom to run with the good, and throw out the bad?

In his book, Jesus: The Man Who Lives, British author Malcolm Muggeridge made this observation…

If the greatest of all, Incarnate God, chooses to be servant of all, who would wish to be master?”

Jesus said that “whoever desires to become great among you, let him be your servant.”

Do you wish to lead? If you do, then find out what it means to serve, and become a servant today.

This week…

We are in the beginning of what is already promising to be a great week at Abba’s House. Yesterday, we began our annual Fresh Oil New Wine Conference, and it is off to a great start. I’m being joined this week by Pastor John Hagee, Perry Stone, Rabbi Curt Landry, Dwain Miller, Randy Caldwell, and more. We are already seeing God move in mighty ways, and are expecting an outpouring of His Spirit as we tap into the ancient wells of our heritage as believers. I hope you can make it, but if you cannot get to Chattanooga, you can watch us online by clicking this link. You can find out more about Fresh Oil New Wine by visiting here.

5 Reasons You Need Some Fresh Oil & New Wine In Your Life

If you follow my blog, you know that next week we will be hosting our annual Fresh Oil New Wine conference at Abba’s House. By now, you might be saying to yourself, “Self… why should I go to Fresh Oil New Wine?”

I’m SO glad you asked!

In the spirit of “all things listed”, here are 5 reasons you should come to Fresh Oil New Wine:

#5 The Olympics are over.

Snow 6J

With all of the ongoing video clips, comments, and chatter still dying off in the distance, you may not be aware that the Olympics actually ended last Sunday. Now that you have so much time on your hands (in the absence of skiing, bobsledding, skating, etc), you can come and be a part of what we believe is going to be a mighty move of God.

#4 It’s better than watching YouTube.

Worship2Yes, you can sit at home and watch other people worship God through endless videos on YouTube, or…

You can register now to be smack-dab in the middle of His presence with hundreds of other hungry worshipers.

#3 This might just be your Due Season.

Leaves1On Monday night of the conference, I will be delivering a message about Due Season. What does it mean? How do you know when your due season has arrived? How do you persevere while you are waiting for your due season to arrive? This session will hopefully answer those questions for you, and give you strength to be an overcomer through all of the seasons of life.

#2 I’ve invited a few friends along.

Each year at Fresh Oil New Wine, we have powerful speakers who join us, and this year is no exception. Pastor John Hagee, Perry Stone, Rabbi Curt Landry, Randy Caldwell, Dwain Miller, and more will be joining us to make this a conference like no other!

#1 You have a rich heritage that needs to be tapped into.

As believers in Jesus, we have deep roots in Jewish heritage. The Jews are God’s chosen people… What does that mean for you as a Christian? How can we honor Israel and our ancient Jewish heritage as 21st century Christians? Come find out.

Fresh Oil New Wine is March 2 – 6, 2014. Registration is free.

I hope to see you there.

Pastor Ron

P.S. I would really appreciate your help. Help us spread the word about Fresh Oil New Wine 2014 by sharing my blog on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, carrier pigeon, smoke signals, or whatever form of social media works for you. If you are on Twitter and Facebook, we are using the hashtag #FONW14.

Along the Trail of Tears

I live and serve at a church (Abba’s House) in the Chattanooga, TN area, which is the eastern head of the infamous Trail of Tears… the path that members of the Cherokee, Muscogee (Creek), Seminole, Chickasaw, and Choctaw Indian nations were forced to travel during their forced relocation to the reservation in Oklahoma, beginning in 1831. The journey was horrific, with over 60,000 Indians dying from starvation, disease, and exposure. My good friend, Rabbi Curt Landry, is the pastor of House of David, just outside of Tulsa, OK, at the western end of the Trail.

Recently, I spoke at House of David. Here is a short video in which I tell the story of something that happened while I was there.

Exciting Days Ahead…

Just wanted to take a moment to say one final word of thanks to everyone who participated in and attended (both in person and online) this year’s Fresh Oil New Wine Conference. After 15 years, it was stronger than ever, and the Presence of God showed up night after night, session after session.

Powerful! Anointed! Glorious!

More than 200 people testified to the healing touch they received during the services. ScrewManifestations of healings were happening right before our eyes. One young lady who had a metal screw that had been left in after surgery came forward to testify of her healing. During one of the services, the screw literally fell out of her flesh! I could go on and on… it was truly a time of miracles, signs, & wonders.
